Five people — including a possible drunken motorist — were hurt, but a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department security officer escaped injury, in a two-car crash in the Rosewood neighborhood.
The collision occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and East Rosecrans Avenue at 3 a.m., Saturday, according to California Highway Patrol reports.
The security officer, who works for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, was driving eastbound on Rosecrans Avenue approaching Main Street when the driver of a 2000 Honda Civic made a left turn in front him, causing a traffic crash, according to a crash report from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The officer was driving a marked white 2004 Ford patrol vehicle, according to a news statement from the California Highway Patrol.
“Preliminary evaluations indicated the driver of the Honda Civic was possibly intoxicated,” according to the sheriff’s report.
The driver, a 20-year-old woman from Torrance, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, causing injury, said California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi.
The sheriff’s security officer, who was also a resident of Torrance, was not injured, according to the CHP.
Paramedics rushed the five occupants in the Honda Civic – all residents of Torrance — to Harbor/UCLA Medical Center, according to the CHP, where the motorist was treated for moderate injuries.
An unidentified female in the Honda suffered major injuries due to a punctured lung. Two 22-year-old women in the car suffered moderate injuries. And an unidentified female in the car suffered moderate injuries, according to the CHP.
