A fire damaged a commercial building in unincorporated Florence Monday, killing two dogs that were chained and unable to escape the flames, along with two chickens, authorities said.

Firefighters sent to the 8100 block of Beach Street at 7:50 a.m. extinguished the flames in about a half-hour, said county fire Inspector Rick Flores. There were no human injuries.

The fire was traced to an overheated motor and listed as accidental, he said.

Damage was estimated at $100,000 to the metal-clad building and $150,000 to its contents, which included automobiles, Flores said.
