Three people were injured, two of them critically, when an SUV left the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Boyle Heights on Sunday and ended up in a home’s front yard.
The crash was reported just after 4 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway at Calzona Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department and California Highway Patrol.
A male and female patient suffered critical injuries and a second male was in fair condition, said the LAFD’s Brian Humphrey.
Preliminary reports from the scene indicated the vehicle crashed on a freeway ramp, according to the CHP.
The ramp has a sharp turn that the SUV’s driver apparently failed to negotiate, causing the vehicle to go over a barrier and into the front yard of a nearby home, said a videographer at the scene.
