An injury accident involving two big rigs and a number of other vehicles closed down the Golden State (5) Freeway in East Los Angeles early Tuesday.

The collision on the southbound freeway occurred near the junction with the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway around 1:55 a.m., and prompted closure of the northbound and southbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At least one person was hospitalized with serious injuries, Los Angeles County Fire Department Supervisor Michael Pittman said.

The northbound lanes were reopened at 3:10 a.m., said CHP Officer Monica Posada. The southbound lanes were reopened about 7:30 a.m., according to the CHP.
