Authorities on Thursday identified a Lancaster man and Seattle woman who were killed when the SUV the man was driving collided head-on with a truck near Santa Clarita.
The collision in the 13100 block of Soledad Canyon Road was reported about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Ellsworth Young, 27, died at the scene and Ashley Glick, a 19-year-old Seattle woman riding in the SUV died at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
According to the preliminary investigation, Young was driving a 2004 Honda Element south on Soledad Canyon Road when the crash occurred, the CHP reported.
“(Young) was unable to negotiate a right-hand curve in the roadway, traveling at a high rate of speed, and crossed over the double yellow lines into northbound lanes directly into the path of (a) … 2003 Freightliner (truck),” the CHP said in a statement.
“The vehicles collided head-on completely (in) the northbound lanes,” the CHP statement said.
Neither Young nor his passenger was wearing a seatbelt, the CHP reported.
No one in the truck was injured.
