A car chase that began in neighboring Montclair on Sunday spilled into Pomona, where a no-hit officer-involved shooting occurred.
An officer with the Montclair Police Department in San Bernardino County attempted to make a traffic stop just before 3 a.m., but the driver, later identified as 24-year-old Andria Lemos of Fontana, did not yield, prompting a chase through residential streets, said Pomona police Sgt. Bert Sanchez.
“The pursuit continued into Pomona city limits where the suspect lost control of the vehicle and collided with a fence at the intersection of Loranne Avenue and Kingsley Avenue,” Sanchez said. “Following the collision, the suspect redirected the vehicle into the path of the solo officer resulting in an officer-involved shooting.
Neither Lemos nor 19-year-old passenger Elijah Lightewoods of Ontario was struck by the gunfire, Sanchez said.
“The pursuit continued until the suspect vehicle collided into a raised curb at the intersection of Mission Boulevard and East End Avenue, disabling the vehicle,” Sanchez said.
Lemos and Lightewoods were taken into custody without further incident and were being held at the Pomona Police Department jail, the sergeant said.
