One man was killed and another person injured in a crash in Gardena that may have been caused by street racing.

The crash occurred at 4:50 p.m. at 155th Street and Vermont Avenue, said Lt. Steve Prendergast of the Gardena Police Department.

Prendergast said one of two occupants in the car that crashed was ejected and declared dead at the scene. The other occupant was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

The car struck two or three other vehicles after the driver lost control, Prendergast said. He said he did not know if the person who was killed was the driver.

Vermont Avenue was closed between Redondo Beach Boulevard and 155th Street during the investigation of the crash, Prendergast said.

Anyone with information about the crash was urged to call (310) 217-9635 or (310) 217-9670.
