A man who died in a street-racing collision in Gardena was identified Wednesday.

Brian Douglas Dion Sr., 50, of Gardena, died in the wreck, which occurred around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday at 155th Street and Vermont Avenue, according to police and the coroner’s office.

Police said Dion was driving a newer model Ford Mustang southbound on Vermont Avenue beginning just north of Redondo Beach Boulevard. During the race, the Mustang collided with a vehicle going west on 155th Street. Dion was ejected from the car and died at the scene.     A passenger in the other vehicle suffered minor injuries, police said.

The other vehicle involved in the race was described as a 2008 or newer white Audi, possibly a model A4. The driver fled south on Vermont Avenue.
