Firefighters got the upper hand on a brush fire that charred several acres surrounding the Pitchess Detention Center near Castaic Thursday afternoon.
The fire was reported at 1:44 p.m. in the 29000 block of The Old Road, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Randall Wright. Arriving units saw smoke on a ridge line and estimated the blaze at about a quarter-acre, he said. It grew to about three acres before being knocked down about 2:50 p.m., he said.
No one was injured and no evacuations were ordered, Wright said.
About 115 firefighters and three helicopters responded to the blaze.
