Glendora Police will be the first in Los Angeles County to carry a nasal treatment for opioid overdoses from drugs such as heroin, hydrocodone and oxycodone.
The department is the first to receive approval from the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Emergency Services Agency to carry nasal naloxene, which is marketed as Narcan, according to Glendora Police.
“Unfortunately, our officers are responding to heroin overdose calls now more than ever before,” said Lt. Rob Lamborghini, an EMT who is also the Glendora Police Department’s medical coordinator.
“It’s also not uncommon for an officer to arrest someone in possession of heroin or unauthorized possession of prescription hydrocodone (Vicodin) or oxycodone (OxyContin).
First responders are able to carry Narcan due to changes in state law that took effect on April 1, police said.
