A woman suspected of driving from the scene after hitting a man and apparently severing one of his legs in South Los Angeles on Sunday was arrested when she crashed into two parked cars at the end of a short police chase.

The man was struck about 5:20 p.m. at the intersection of 43rd Street and Central Avenue, Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department‘s Media Relations Section said.

The woman left the scene at a high rate of speed and while being chased by police she hit two parked vehicle — a car and a truck — near 51st Street and McKinley Avenue.

The victim was taken to a hospital and the suspect was taken into custody, Lopez said.

A witness says on video shot at the scene of the hit-and-run crash that the man’s leg was severed and firefighters are seen taking the man away on a stretcher as others follow with a bag that apparently contains the man’s leg.
