Mario Carreno Roman, 44, of Lancaster, was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the crash, which occurred on 87th Street East at 1:55 p.m Sunday, said coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz.

Roman was driving a 1991 Toyota pickup truck south on 87th Street East, north of Avenue S-8, when he “lost control of his vehicle in the curve of the roadway (and) crossed into the northbound lane directly into the path of a northbound 2012 Nissan Altima,” said California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Vandecar.

The Altima hit the right side of Roman’s Toyota, Vandecar said.

The driver, 24-year-old Jose Dejesus Villarubio of Littlerock, and a 5- month-old boy in the middle-rear seat suffered minor injuries, he said. But 25- year-old Maribella Acosta of Littlerock, who was in the right rear seat, was ejected and suffered major injuries.

All three of the Altima’s occupants were transported to Northridge Hospital Medical Center for treatment.
