A brush fire in Whittier scorched about three acres Thursday, but no injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.

Firefighters were sent to the area of Mar Vista Street and Colima Road about 10:10 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

After about an hour, the fire had grown from a half-acre to three acres. By about 12:30 p.m., the fire’s size had stabilized, and the flames were about 75 percent contained, the fire department reported. The blaze was declared 100 percent contained by around 1:45 p.m., county fire Inspector Randall Wright said.

Reports from the scene indicated that the flames jumped a fire road and burned uphill in a canyon.
