Two young men were wounded in a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting in the Baldwin Hills-Crenshaw area of South Los Angeles and in Azusa, a man accident shot himself while cleaning his gun Sunday.
The gunfire erupted just before 5 p.m. at the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Stocker Street, Lt. Scot Williams of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Station said.
Both victims, men in their 20s, were taken to a hospital and were in stable condition, Williams said. One was shot in the face, he said.
A minivan, riddled with bullets and with blood splattered inside, also was visible at the scene. Police originally said three victims were wounded, but Williams said a third person inside the minivan was not hurt.
No information was available about suspects. Investigators had a vague description of an SUV being involved, Williams said.
The shooting took place “close to a pretty notorious gang area,” but gang involvement was not immediately confirmed, Williams said.
Elsewhere in the county, a man in his mid-40s accidentally shot himself in a thigh while cleaning a gun at his Azusa town home, according to a news report.
The man said he was cleaning his 9 mm handgun about 1 p.m. in the 300 block of South Second Avenue when it discharged, Arcadia police Lt. Mike Castro told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
The man — who said he did not know the firearm was loaded — was taken to a hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury, according to the Tribune.
