Flooding in all lanes on the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway in Bell caused traffic to be backed up for a half-hour, a California Highway Patrol officer said Tuesday.
The flooding from a broken pipe was reported at about 10:15 p.m. Monday on the southbound Long Beach Freeway at Florence Avenue, said CHP Officer Fernando Villalobos.
Patrol units took turns driving in front of groups of vehicles to slow them down as they went through the flooded area, Villalobos said.
“We wanted to make sure they went through at a safe speed,” Villalobos said.
The source of flooding stopped by itself and the water was drained from the freeway by about 10:45 p.m., Villalobos said.
Caltrans will investigate to determine the source of the flooding and try to prevent a recurrence, Villalobos said.
