An armed man was shot and killed by Los Angeles police Thursday after he allegedly pointed a gun at them in front of a middle school in Sylmar.
Officers went to the 14000 block of Tyler Street about 7:20 a.m. on a report of a man with a gun in the area, Los Angeles police Officer Tony Im said.
When they arrived, the man was facing away from them, holding a gun to his head, and he was shot after he turned and pointed the gun at officers, Im said.
He died after being taken to a hospital.
No officers were hurt, Im said.
Olive Vista Middle School temporarily was placed on lockdown as a precaution, he said.
The man’s name was not immediately available.
