Police Friday were investigating the armed robbery of a Brink’s armored truck outside a Wells Fargo bank in Inglewood.

It happened about 9 a.m. in the 400 block of South Market Street, said Inglewood Police Lt. Jacqueline Layne. According to the preliminary investigation, one of the guards got out of the truck and was approached by a man with a handgun, Layne said.

“At that point, there was an exchange of gunfire,” Layne said. “The suspect grabbed an unknown amount of money, ran to a silver SUV and fled.”

There were no injuries reported, Layne said. The suspect was described as Hispanic and about 5 feet 6 inches tall, wearing all black clothing with a black bandanna covering his face, Layne said.

FBI agents and Inglewood detectives were investigating the crime. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the hotline number (888) 412- 7463.
