A shirtless man climbed 40 to 50 feet into a tree in the Little Tokyo area of Los Angeles Tuesday morning and eventually came down on his own several hours later, police said.

The unidentified man was discovered in the tree at San Pedro and Fifth streets at 12:30 a.m., said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Ed Kinney. He yelled at police officers and firefighters, jumped limb to limb and broke off some branches, Kinney said.

Firefighters put out large pads to catch him, but he climbed down on his own after several hours, and was not injured, a police officer said.
