Workers found three sealed urns containing cremated human remains left at a church in El Monte on Monday.
A call was later made to the Nativity Church by someone who claimed to have found the urns in a storage container, which had been purchased from an auction, said El Monte police Sgt. Richard Luna.
Police were sent to the church at 11:40 a.m, took possession of the urns and brought them back to the police station, Luna said.
Investigators learned the identities of the deceased and determined they had been cremated by the Heritage Crematory and the Pomona Cemetery Association, Luna said.
The deceased were identified as Erna Jean Muldrow, Rodney Crosby Muldrow and Brian Earl Muldrow, said El Monte police Sgt. Richard Luna.
Anyone with any information for locating anyone related to the deceased was asked to call the El Monte Police Department at (626) 580-2114.
