A 23-year-old Baldwin Park man who allegedly brandished a handgun while being chased by Baldwin Park police Wednesday was shot in the arm and hospitalized, authorities said.

The gunfire erupted as officers tried to make a pedestrian stop of an alleged probation/parole violator, said sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Rouzan.

The suspect tried to run away and pulled out a handgun, Rouzan said. He was shot in the arm.

No officers were injured and a handgun was recovered at the scene, said Rouzan.

Paramedics dispatched about noon to Los Angeles Street and Cutler Avenue took the man to a hospital, according to the county fire department.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
