Police said Wednesday they have been in contact with relatives of three family members whose cremated remains in three sealed urns were dropped off at an El Monte church.

The remains were brought to the Nativity Church on Tuesday by a woman who said she found them in a storage container that had been purchased from an auction, said El Monte police Sgt. Richard Luna.

Police took possession of the urns, and detectives learned the deceased – – identified as Erna Jean Muldrow and Rodney Crosby Muldrow, and their son Brian Earl Muldrow — had been cremated by the Heritage Crematory and the Pomona Cemetery Association, Luna said.

Police then sought public help to locate anyone related to them.

Late Tuesday night, a friend of the family called police and told investigators that the Muldrows had another son, who lives in Hesperia, Luna said.

Detectives contacted the son, who told them the remains had been kept by his brother’s widow, the sergeant said. Arrangements were being made to return the urns to the family, Luna said.
