A man who led police on a high-speed chase from Tarzana to Sherman Oaks was taken into custody after abandoning the car and running into undercover officers involved in a prostitution sting at a hotel, a police sergeant said Thursday.

The chase began near Tampa Avenue and the Ventura (101) Freeway in Tarzana shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to authorities.

“The pursuit began because the suspect and his vehicle matched a radio call that some of our officers were responding to,” said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Mike Stewart of the Topanga Division.

“The call involved a man who was circling an area looking at a lone female. Then of course we had his reckless driving once the officers tried to make a traffic stop.”

The suspect, whose name was not released, abandoned the car near the Courtyard by Marriott hotel on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks, just west of Sepulveda Boulevard.

The suspect led police on a short foot chase by the hotel before being apprehended by the undercover officers.

The suspect will be booked on felony evading, but additional charges are possible, Stewart said. Police are trying to determine if the car was stolen, Stewart said.
