LA River crash

A car veered off an offramp on the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway and into a canal by the Los Angeles River in Long Beach Friday morning, killing three people, authorities said.

The crash off the Anaheim offramp of the 710 Freeway was reported at 4:07 a.m., said Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Brian Fisk.

“One car with four passengers — three men and one woman — landed on the rocks by the water on its roof,” Fisk said.”All the victims were in their 20s.”

Long Beach Fire Department dispatched several units to the scene, including the urban search and rescue team, Fisk continued.

“Our units extricated all four victims from the car and one man was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries,” Fisk added. “Unfortunately, the other three victims — two men and a woman — were pronounced dead at the scene.”

Their names were withheld pending family notification.

The crash shut down the northbound and southbound offramps at Anaheim Street, Fisk said.

The cause of the crash was not known. It was under investigation by the Long Beach Police and Fire Departments.
