A Metro bus and Long Beach Police Department patrol car collided Monday on the Long Beach (710) Freeway, injuring both drivers and shutting down the southbound side for about two hours, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The accident in the fast lane on the southbound Long Beach Freeway south of Pacific Coast Highway was reported at 12:49 a.m., said CHP Officer Monica Posada.

The driver of the bus and an LBPD officer — the sole occupants of their respective vehicles — were transported to hospitals for evaluation and treatment of injuries that were “definitely not major,” Posada said.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 1:11 a.m. shutting down the entire southbound Long Beach Freeway near the crash site to investigate, she said. The freeway was reopened at 3:10 a.m.
