At least five non-injury rubbish fires were set early Wednesday morning in South Los Angeles, authorities said.
The first of the fires was set set shortly before 1 a.m. in a trash bin next to a building in the 100 block of West 39th Street, said Peter Sanders of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The flames threatened the building before being put out by firefighters, Sanders said.
About an hour later, a fire was reported in the 300 block of West 39th Street, and a few minutes after that, another was reported in the 3900 block of South Broadway, Sanders said.
At least two more fires were later reported in the same general area, he said.
Arson investigators were canvassing the area looking for witnesses or anyone with information about who may have started the fires, Sanders said.
