A possible suicide attempt in Studio City prompted residential evacuations Wednesday, police said.
The incident in the 12500 block of Landale Street was reported to the Los Angeles Police Department about 3:30 a.m. as a possible gas leak, said Officer Jack Richter, an LAPD spokesman.
“But there was no gas leak,” Richter said. “Apparently, a resident had set up a generator in his home, began running it and police were called.”
Police went to the scene and began to evacuate people in a two- or or three-block radius around the house because they first thought it was a gas leak, Richter said.

“Now it appears, it may have been a suicide attempt,” Richter said. Some emergency rescue personnel at the scene added they smelled carbon dioxide.
An LAPD bomb squad went into the home to see if there were any explosives inside, Richter said. What they found was not immediately reported.
Police also took into custody the man who owned the home, Richter said. His name was not immediately released.
According to broadcast reports, the suspect is mired in a protracted dispute with Wells Fargo Bank.
