A 36-year-old homeless woman remained in custody Wednesday on suspicion of setting at least one in a series of small fires in South Los Angeles.
Alejandra Dovale, suspected of setting a fire outside of 117 W. 39th St. just before 1 a.m. on May 14, was arrested about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of West 39th Street in South Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Dovale was booked at the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street station on suspicion of arson of a structure. Her bail was set at $75,000, according to Peter Sanders of the LAFD.
Investigators were still seeking to determine if Dovale was connected to other trash fires set in the general vicinity during overnight hours on May 14, Sanders said.
“Arson is a serious crime and we have zero-tolerance for willful acts of destruction in the City of Los Angeles,” LAFD Chief Ralph Terrazas said. “We are thankful there were no injuries or lives lost as a result of these fires and we will always investigate and prosecute the serious crime of arson to the fullest extent of the law.”
