Police on Thursday asked for the public’s help in identifying a couple who robbed and carjacked an acquaintance in Santa Fe Springs.
It happened about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 10700 block of Laurel Avenue, according to Officer John Scoggins of the Whittier Police Department, which patrols Santa Fe Springs.
A man was giving a ride to the suspects, who he met days earlier, with the female suspect in the front passenger seat and the man in the rear, when the man asked the driver to pull over as if they had reached their destination, Scoggins said.
“Upon doing so, the male reached forward from the back seat from where he was sitting, put the victim into a choke hold with one arm and with the other hand, held a handgun to the victim’s head,” the officer said.
The woman then removed all of the driver’s property from his pockets, Scoggins said.
“The victim was forced out of his car and the female climbed into the driver’s seat,” he said.
The suspects then drove east on Florence Avenue and out of sight, Scoggins said.
The vehicle was found unoccupied a short time later at a motel in an unincorporated area near Whittier, he said.
One suspect is described as an approximately 40-year-old man who is 5 feet 6 inches tall, about 140 pounds with a shaved head, brown eyes and various tattoos. He was wearing a black jacket, black-and-white checkered shirt and black pants. No approximate age was provided for the female, described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 190 pounds with long bleached blonde hair. She was wearing a gray hoodie and faded blue jeans.
Anyone with information about the suspects was urged to call Whittier police at (562) 567-9270.
