Three to four “bug bombs” were set off by a tenant in a kitchen, on the first floor of a two-story apartment building in Van Nuys Saturday, and the resulting fire put a family into the street.

Firefighters were dispatched at 12:37 p.m. to 14541 W. Hartland St. had the fire out within 10 minutes of their arrival, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

No injuries were reported, Stewart said.

“The occupants were outside when the bug bombs flashed,” she said. “Fire was contained to the kitchen only.”

A total of five people — two adults and three children — were displaced as a result of the fire, Stewart said. No injuries were reported.
