An unspecified threat against a middle school in Pico Rivera Wednesday prompted officials to cancel classes at that campus and a nearby elementary school, authorities said.

The threat was made by a male caller who phoned Rivera Middle School, 7200 Citronell Ave., about 6 a.m. before school opened, said Sgt. Marco Soto of the sheriff’s Pico Rivera Station.

Classes were canceled at Rivera Middle School and at Rivera Elementary, which is next door, Soto said. The investigation was continuing, he said.
