Two carjacking suspects were hospitalized in critical condition after a new luxury vehicle they stole crashed into a tree in Pasadena early Friday, police said.

The thieves took the vehicle, and the owner’s wallet and smart phone, at gunpoint from the 4500 block of Willow Brook Avenue in East Hollywood around 2:30 a.m., said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Melvin Gamble.

Gamble said the owner was able to track his 2015 BMW by computer through the location of his smart phone.

Police agencies were then notified of the vehicle’s whereabouts, and an LAPD helicopter also tracked it, Gamble said.

The suspects lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of East Orange Grove Boulevard and North Allen Avenue in Pasadena, crashing into a tree around 3 a.m. Gamble said.

Both suspects were extricated from the vehicle, one in critical condition, the other with life-threatening injuries, Gamble said.
