Sheriff’s homicide detectives Monday conducted a homicide investigation in Canyon Country, where a man’s body was found inside a car.

The body was found at Golden Valley Road and Robert C. Lee Parkway about 10:45 a.m. Sunday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

A deputy on patrol noticed the blue Honda Accord parked illegally on the shoulder of the road about 9:30 a.m., sheriff’s Deputy Crystal Hernandez said. The car was still there more than hour later, and, while preparing to have the vehicle towed, the deputy began an inventory search of the Honda and found the body, Hernandez said.

It was not immediately clear why the body was not immediately spotted by the deputy who first noticed the illegally parked car. The sheriff’s department declined to say where the body was in the car or to confirm initial news reports from the scene Sunday that it had been left in the trunk.

The car was left parked not far from Golden Valley High School, north of Sierra Highway.
