A 32-year-old former girls’ junior varsity basketball coach at Mira Costa High School is behind bars on charges that he raped a 15-year-old girl at her home last year.

Timothy Lee Lucas II Lucas is being held on a half-million dollars bail and is due back in a Torrance courtroom on July 14.

He faces a maximum sentence of 32 years in prison if convicted of two counts of forcible rape of a child over 14 years, three counts of committing lewd acts upon a child and one count of sexual penetration by a foreign object of a minor over 14 years old.

Prosecutors allege the crimes occurred on three occasions between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28, 2014.

Lucas pleaded not guilty Friday. His attorney claims the girl’s mother made up the allegations against his client out of revenge after Lucas broke off their relationship, the Daily Breeze reported.

Lucas had been offered a head coaching job at West High School, pending approval by the Torrance Unified School District, but lost that job because of the allegations, according to the newspaper.
