Pepper spray was discharged in a room at the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood during a dispute between two people Tuesday, prompting a call to authorities.

Deputies and firefighters were sent to the facility in the 8400 block of Sunset Boulevard shortly after 5 a.m., said Los Angeles Sheriff’s Lt. Edward Ramirez of the West Hollywood Station.

According to the preliminary investigation, there was a dispute between a male and female in one of the rooms, and one of them was sprayed with pepper spray, Ramirez said.

The fumes spread to the hallway, and firefighters were summoned to ventilate the area, Ramirez said, adding that investigators were trying to determine if a crime was committed.
