A murder suspect was taken into custody this Thursday afternoon at an apartment complex in the same South El Monte block where a 31-year-old man was shot and killed a month ago.

The suspect complied with deputies’ commands and surrendered about 5:15 p.m. in the 2500 block of Continental Avenue, said Sgt. Jorge Marchena of the sheriff’s Temple Station.

The male suspect’s name was not immediately released.

The sergeant had no immediate details about the killing for which the suspect was wanted, saying only that it occurred about three weeks ago.

Humberto Nava of South El Monte was shot in the same block shortly before 6 a.m. on May 11 and died at the scene.
