A two-alarm brush fire burning along Interstate 5 north of Castaic scorched about 10 acres and forced the closure of all lanes of the interstate as more than 100 firefighters battled the flames from the ground and air.
The fire was reported at 2:38 p.m. Saturday near the lower crossover, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP closed Interstate 5 northbound at Lake Hughes Road, and southbound at CHP Road, five miles south of Lebec near Pyramid Lake. Heavy smoke and fire trucks were on the freeway, officers said.
Fixed wing aircraft were requested to join helicopters deployed in the fire fight, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
There were at least 115 firefighters battling the flames, the fire department reported.
