Authorities Wednesday announced a $20,000 reward for help in solving the killing of a young man who was gunned down in Compton two days before Christmas.
Vicente Castillo, 19, was shot on Dec. 23 about 1:15 a.m. while driving near White Avenue and Rose Street.
“My brother was a good person,” Wilmer Medina told reporters at a news conference at sheriff’s headquarters in Monterey Park. “He didn’t deserve … this. He had a good mind, a good personality, no bad habits.”
Castillo “stopped adjacent to a vehicle he inadvertently believed was being driven by a friend,” sheriff’s Deputy Crystal Hernandez said. “The driver of the vehicle exited, approached Mr. Castillo as he sat behind the wheel of his vehicle, and shot him for no apparent reason.”
The reward was offered by the city of Compton and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, (323) 890-5500; or Crime Stoppers, (800) 222-TIPS.
