Crews quickly got a handle on a brush fire that broke out near the Golden State (5) Freeway in the Castaic area late Tuesday morning, prompting closure of the southbound lanes for about an hour.
The fire was reported about 10:45 a.m. near the ‘Upper Crossover’ of the freeway near Frontage Road, and blackened several acres, according to the county fire department and the California Highway Patrol.
The fire, which briefly threatened some radio towers, was quickly contained, but crews remained on scene dousing hot spots.
The southbound 5 Freeway was closed in the area as a precaution, but one lane was reopened about 11:40 a.m., according to the CHP.
