A man was shot and killed Friday afternoon while sitting in a car parked outside a 99-cents store.
Officers responded about 1:20 p.m. to a shots fired call at the intersection of 135th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard and found the victim still seated in his vehicle in the store parking lot, said Gardena police Lt. Vince Osorio.
At least one suspect approached the victim’s gray BMW sedan and opened fire before fleeing, possibly on foot, according to ABC7.
County firefighters pronounced the man dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of kin.
A man who identified himself as a neighbor of the victim told ABC7 the victim was about 18, attended El Camino College and was not involved in gangs.
Crenshaw Boulevard was closed between 135th Street and El Segundo Boulevard until about 4:50 p.m. as police investigated the death.
