An El Monte Police SUV was stolen from a crime scene and taken on a joyride for around an hour, authorities said Friday.
The vehicle was taken as officers responded to a burglary call and then pursued a suspect in the 9600 block of Telstar Avenue around 10:55 p.m. Thursday, said El Monte Police Sgt. Richard Luna.
The vehicle was found 3.3 miles away on the Stewart Street onramp to the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway around 11:50 p.m., Luna said.
The vehicle’s engine was running and its overhead lights operating when it was found, Luna said, adding that weapons and other police equipment inside the vehicle were all accounted for.
No suspect was found, Luna said.
