A police pursuit of a suspected DUI driver ended with his vehicle striking a church in Lincoln Heights, police said Thursday.
The Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the 2800 block of Baldwin Street sustained slight damage from the impact of the vehicle, an early 90s Honda Civic, a news videographer reported from the scene.
The pursuit began around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of East Olympic Boulevard and South San Pedro Street in response to a stolen vehicle report and was over within 10 minutes, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Leonard Ramirez.
It was subsequently determined that the vehicle was not stolen but that the driver was DUI, Ramirez said.
The driver was hospitalized with minor injuries pending being booked for DUI and felony evasion, he said.
