Two Los Angeles Police officers suffered minor injuries in the Jefferson Park area on Saturday morning when their patrol car was struck by a black sedan whose driver fled.

The collision happened at 1:45 a.m. at Saint Andrews Place and Jefferson Boulevard, said Sgt. O. Green of the LAPD South Traffic Division.

The officers were transported to a hospital for observation, Green said.

The collision with the hit and run vehicle caused the patrol car to hit a tree, said the Los Angeles Fire Department‘s Margaret Stewart. Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to open the driver’s side door to extricate the officers.

One officer was 29 years old and the other was 27 years old, Stewart said.
