A man who nearly struck a bicyclist during an alcohol- fueled driving rampage through Palos Verdes was sentenced Monday to three years in prison.
William Thomas Kelly, 67, pleaded no contest May 28 to one count each of assault with a deadly weapon — his automobile — and DUI causing injury. After Monday’s sentencing hearing, he was immediately taken into custody to begin serving his prison term.
Kelly ran a bicyclist off the road on Sept. 26, 2013, grazing his leg, then backed his car over the bike and nearly struck the rider, who had yelled at him.
Authorities said Kelly also crashed into several cars.
He was found inside his damaged vehicle after it crashed through a locked fence and into a bush, prosecutors said.
