A fire apparently connected with an armed robbery of a Burbank convenience store was under investigation Friday, and police were seeking at least three suspects.
The fire at the Sevan Mini Market at 1516 N. San Fernando Road was reported at 8:50 p.m. Thursday, Burbank Police Sgt. Claudio Losacco said. The flames were extinguished in about 20 minutes.
“Upon arrival, officers found the business was on fire,” Losacco said. “The officers made contact with the victim, who reported he’d been robbed by at least three suspects, with one or more being armed with a firearm.”
The victim suffered minor injuries, Losacco said.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation, but appears to be related to the robbery,” Losacco said.
No description was released of the suspects or of any vehicle used in connection with the crime.
Losacco said explosions were heard during the fire, but the sounds “appear to have been caused by merchandise inside the store, not by an explosive device.”
The amount of property or cash taken was not known, Losacco said. He said reports of blasts at the time of the fire may have been related to merchandise in the store but were not the result of an explosive device.
