A traffic stop of a vehicle speeding through a residential area led to the discovery of a large amount of drugs, weapons and cash and resulted in the arrests of an alleged gang member and a woman, Montebello police reported Wednesday.
When an officer walked up to the vehicle about 1 a.m. Monday, a rifle was visible next to the driver’s legs, prompting a call for back-up support, according to police.
As the officers were getting the driver out of the vehicle, they saw another gun — later determined to be a loaded 9mm assault pistol — wedged under his left leg and the driver’s seat, and found a loaded Glock 22 pistol in his waistband, according to a Montebello Police Department statement.
The rifle was identified as an AR-15 loaded with a 30-round magazine. A loaded 380-caliber handgun was also found in the driver’s-side door panel, according to police, who say they also found 10 pounds of methamphetamine, 45 grams of heroin, 31 grams of cocaine, 14 grams of marijuana and about $20,000 in currency.
Bail was set at $500,000 for Ramon Enciso, 45, of Montebello. Police identified him as a Maravilla gang member and said he has a lengthy arrest record.
Wendy Peralta, 35 of La Habra, was also booked on suspicion of various weapons and narcotics violations, with bail set at $105,500.
