Authorities Thursday identified a young man who was shot and killed by a one of a group of other young men who confronted him on a street in the Adams area of Los Angeles.
The shooting took place about 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, in the 1400 block of East 22nd Street, just east of Central Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Lt. Raul Jovel, watch commander at Newton Division.
“The victim apparently walked outside a home and he was confronted by a group of five young men who were probably in their early 20s,” Jovel said. “One of the men pulled out a gun and shot the victim.”
Humberto Soto, 21, of Los Angeles died at County-USC Medical Center, the coroner’s office reported. Detectives were investigating the possibility the shooting was gang-related.
“We have an active gang set in the area call ‘Loco Park,’ ” Jovel said. “But we just don’t know what the motive is at this point.”
Jovel said people heard the shooting but so far detectives haven’t turned up eyewitnesses. Anyone with information on this shooting was asked to call the LAPD’s Newton Division at (323) 846-6547. All tips can be made anonymously.
