A mother accused of shooting her 17-year-old son to death remained behind bars Thursday charged with murder.
Lai Yeung Hang, 49, of Rosemead, also faces a gun allegation and is set to be arraigned Aug. 12.
On Sunday, Hang checked into the Valley Hotel in Rosemead with her son, George Hang, according to the District Attorney’s Officer. Prosecutors allege that early the next morning, she shot the boy as he slept.
Witnesses at the motel said they heard shots fired at about 5 a.m., however the shooting wasn’t reported to authorities until about five hours later.
Hang called 911 and was taken to a sheriff’s station for questioning and later arrested.
A handgun was found inside the motel room, authorities said.
A woman at the hotel who heard the early morning shots said she had seen the pair walking outside around midnight and there were no signs of any trouble or fighting.
Hang, who is being held on $2 million bail, could face up to 50 years to life in prison.
