Plainclothes officers spotted a male with a handgun about 2:30 p.m. in the area of Central Avenue and 96th Street, Los Angeles police Officer Drake Madison said.
A brief foot chase led into an alley, where an officer-involved shooting occurred, Madison said.
The suspect was struck multiple times and taken to a hospital, the officer said.
His condition was stable, Madison said about 8:30 p.m.
No officers were injured, according to the officer, who said a handgun was recovered at the scene.
