A 20-year-old skateboarder was struck and killed by a car in Downey early Friday.
The accident occurred at 2:06 a.m. when the victim, who was carrying a skateboard, stepped off the median strip and into the path of a 2014 Honda Accord in the 8100 block of Firestone Boulevard, Downey Police Sgt. D. Doyle said.
The fatally injured man was identified as Mitchell Albert Duran of Downey, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.
Doyle said the Honda was driven by a 36-year-old Downey man, whose name was not released. The accident is under investigation, and anyone who witnessed it was urged to contact Downey police Detective Haxton at (562) 904-2339.
