What began as a domestic dispute at a Department of Motor Vehicles office turned into a standoff between a man and police in West Covina but it ended peacefully early Thursday, authorities said.

The standoff in the 1200 block of East Rowland Avenue, where the domestic dispute that began at the DMV continued, was resolved around 3:30 a.m., about 12 hours after the incident began, and the suspect was hospitalized for treatment of a minor injury, the West Covina Police Department reported.

A woman and two children who were in the residence when the standoff began were safely evacuated, West Covina Police Officer Eddie Flores told NBC4.

Neighboring houses were evacuated beginning around 8 p.m. Wednesday, a news videographer reported from the scene.
